Spring Training is all about the fundamentals. What are fundamentals? They are the things that should be automatic to be a successful sideline and competitive cheer leader. It's the vocabulary: stunt, prep, high V, daggers, touchdown, extension, lib.... It's staying on the same count as your teammates. It's pointing your toes as a flyer and knowing your grips as a base. It's strength, positivity, teamwork, confidence and finding your voice. It's building tumbling skills and learning about choreography. Because Spring Training focuses on the fundamentals, it is the perfect place to start your cheerleading experience or just continue building your skills. All are welcome.
Classes are available for athletes from kindergarten to grade 12. Athletes who are new to the program should register based on the published age groups. Returning athletes should check with their coach to confirm which team to join.
West Portland Cheer's practice locations are in the Multnomah Village area.
K-5th graders practice on Monday and Friday evenings.
Grades 6-7 practice on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
Grades 8-12 practice on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
All ages have tumbling on Sunday afternoons.
